Garchev Han – delicious food, beautiful landscape, relaxed atmosphere, convenient rooms

The village of Anton is a place that has been forgotten in the recent years. Some time ago, along the village passed the main road Sofia – Burgas and thousands of people used to pass through the beautiful landscape at the foot of Stara Planina.
At that time, Neno Garchev decided to develop a real, decent family business – an inn!
With all the amenities you can expect from this forgotten word (inn or as we call it in Bulgaria – a “han”) – yummy homemade food, great friendly service and clean and comfortable rooms where you can relax at the end of a long day.

Well, years later, with the creation of the highway, the flow of people diminished, but not the enthusiasm and love for Neno’s inn.
Garchev Han is exactly where it was 20 years ago – just on the sub-Balkan road, between Pirdop and Klissura, just off the detour to Koprivshtitsa.

We enter through the massive wooden door and are welcomed by a cozy patio with cobblestone, a well and wooden tables. A combination of taste and tranquility.

From there, we can also get to the inner part of the inn. Once we enter we are greeted by a fireplace, suitable for winter and rainy days.

The food at Garchev Han is excellent.

The Sujuk (a special twisted sausage) as well as the sheep and buffalo cheese are homemade.
I ate kavarma (dish of highly seasoned fried meat) in omelette and an exceptionally tasty tripe soup.

We also ordered mixed grilled meat – it was obvious the meat was natural, not from the mass farms.
The prices are moderate –  tripe soup is 3 leva, the kavarma – 6.2 leva, one meatball – 1.3 leva, homemade sujuk – 5 leva.

If you arrive late in the evening or want to relax a day or two in the beautiful area of the inn, Garchev Han offers several clean and comfortable rooms.

As can be seen all comforts are available – convenient beds, heating and a bath with bathtub

Neno Garchev is a bit upset. All his life he has been working hard to build his own inn in the hope of his sons continuing the business. However, now that the traffic is gone, so are the clients. Still , the man is not desperate, he offers the best he is capable of in order to leave unforgettable memories in his guests. And he continues to improve his inn.

We came by Garchev Han during a few hour Saturday walk. You can try it too, either with a special organised trip or at least by remembering Neno and his inn when you are going down the sub-Balkan road – he is always there and will feed you and give you a good drink 🙂
